The Colombian midfielder looks set to reunite with former Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park
Real Madrid outcast James Rodriguez is closing in on a move to Everton for €35 million (£31m/$41 m).

Goal has heard that Goodison Park is the most likely next target for James, with Carlo Ancelotti eager to bring the 29-year-old to Goodison Park ahead of the new season.

The David Beckham-owned MLS team Inter Miami had previously made an foreign offer for Colombia, but is now expected to embark on the next step of his Premier League career.

During an interview with Mexican motivational speaker Daniel Habif, James dropped a big hint about his future earlier in August, revealing that a transfer to England holds great appeal to him.

“The only thing that’s missing is Series A and the Premier League, you have to see where I want to go or where I want to go,” he said.

“It would be a smart idea to go to England, it is a big division.”

Ancelotti was the man who persuaded the seasoned midfielder to join Madrid in 2014, when he completed a £71 m ($93 m) move from Monaco to Santiago Bernabeu after a stellar display at the Brazilian World Cup final.

However, a year later the Italian head coach was relieved of his managerial duties, and under Ancelotti ‘s successor Zinedine Zidane, James quickly fell out of favour.

James was ultimately sent to Bayern Munich on loan, where he spent two seasons before returning to the Spanish capital last summer.

Yet last term he was unable to force his way back into the Madrid side, with a lack of consistent opportunities restricting him to only 14 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Rumors of a rift between the former Monaco star and Zidane swirled throughout the campaign 2020-21, ending in the glory of the Blancos in La Liga.

James has now collected a total of nine major honors during his time at the Bernabeu, but he was not happy with his limited contribution to Madrid’s latest title charge, as he said to the podcast ‘Realeza del Fútbol Latino’: “I know that I always have the conditions to play, but I can’t do it because of others.

“If I were a bad player, I’d accept it, but I’m a person who always wants to win and play.”

The playmaker also confirmed that a permanent move away from the club was rejected in 2019, adding: “If you see that you don’t have the same chances as your team-mates, it’s hard. I tried to leave but that club didn’t let me.
