Oyo State House of Assembly spokesperson, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has claimed that the performance of the Oyo State Security Network also known as Operation Amotekun would depend on the type of help the state police command gives to the new security outfit.
Ogundoyin who spoke in Ibadan, the state capital, while receiving Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Joe Enwonwu said in his office that the performance of Amotekun Corps in improving state security depends on the complete support and guidance provided to them by Nigerian Police officers and men.

While receiving his guest on Wednesday at the Assembly Complex, Ogundoyin asked Enwonwu to extend full support to Amotekun Corps when it is fully operational in the state.

He maintained that this will allow the corps to complement the security agents’ activities in the task of reducing crime in every nook and cranny in the state.

Ogundoyin told the police commissar that Amotekun Corps was not set up to take over Nigerian police functions.

He insisted the corps was set up to help police gather information, engage in surveillance and help them arrest suspects.

“We understand the constraints of the Nigerian Police. We know they are understaffed and the job before them is overwhelming.

“But the Amotekun Corps will be deployed to all zones in the state where they will participate in the job of securing their communities and assisting the Police. They will arrest suspected criminals and hand them over to the Police”.

Ogundoyin urged the police to do more to collect and protect the border communities in Oyo State in the field of intelligence.

While speaking, Enwonwu told the Speaker that the Police Command is prepared to work with Amotekun Corps in line with the Inspector General of Police, IGP’s directive.

He clarified that the police have a strong working relationship with the different groups of vigilante and local hunters, adding that Amotekun Corps is not going to be an exception.
